Palestinian National Council President Rawhi Fatouh said that the Israeli authorities' decision to seize 464.4 dunums of land belonging to the town of Sinjil, north of Ramallah, under the designation of “state land” constitutes a dangerous escalation in Israel’s annexation and settlement expansion policies and reflects ongoing efforts to impose colonial realities on Palestinian land.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Fatouh said that the confiscation of Palestinian land remains a key tool in advancing the settlement project and implementing plans aimed at displacement and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people. He stressed that such measures are part of broader efforts to expand Israeli control over Palestinian territory and undermine prospects for an independent Palestinian state.
Fatouh noted that the decision is consistent with recent remarks made by former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, who claimed that the areas classified as “Area C” are part of the State of Israel, rejected the establishment of a Palestinian state, and advocated granting Palestinians only limited self-rule within Areas A and B.
He described these statements as unacceptable and condemnable, arguing that they amount to an explicit endorsement of annexation and a denial of the Palestinian people's right to self-determination. Fatouh added that such positions constitute a clear violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, international legitimacy resolutions, and the agreements signed between the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Israel.
Fatouh further emphasized that Israel continues to entrench what he described as a settler-colonial system based on segregation and racial discrimination. He called on the international community to take urgent and effective action to halt annexation and settlement policies and to hold Israeli leaders accountable for violations committed against the Palestinian people and their land.
