Report: 42 New Settlement Outposts Established in the Occupied West Bank During the First Half of 2026

GHLands:The occupied West Bank witnessed a marked increase in settlement activity during the first half of 2026, as the Israeli government continued implementing policies aimed at expanding settlements, seizing Palestinian land, and creating new facts on the ground through the establishment of new settlement outposts and the expansion of existing settlements.

According to data released by organizations that monitor settlement activity, Israeli settlers established 42 new settlement outposts on Palestinian land during the first six months of the year. Most of the outposts were agricultural and grazing outposts. They were distributed across several governorates, including 13 in Hebron, nine in Ramallah and Al-Bireh, eight in Nablus, and four in Bethlehem, with additional outposts established in other parts of the occupied West Bank.

Accelerated Measures to Consolidate Control

Specialists say settlement expansion is no longer limited to geographic growth but has become part of a broader policy aimed at reshaping the political, legal, and administrative landscape of the occupied West Bank. They argue that these measures are designed to advance annexation plans and further consolidate Israeli control over Palestinian territory.

They noted that recent months have seen an acceleration in legislation and government decisions supporting settlement expansion, alongside the approval of new master plans, the expansion of settlement boundaries, the construction of settlement roads, increased control over water resources, and the establishment of buffer zones. These developments have coincided with an escalation in attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians and their property.

Outposts Viewed as Precursors to Permanent Settlements

According to the specialists, the pace of settlement expansion is expected to continue increasing amid the growing influence of far-right parties within the Israeli government. They explained that the process typically begins with the establishment of small settlement outposts, followed by military protection, before they are eventually granted legal recognition and transformed into permanent settlements.

The specialists stressed that Palestinians' continued presence on their land, together with the documentation of violations and sustained political, legal, and media advocacy, remains a key element in confronting settlement expansion and preventing it from becoming an irreversible reality.
