2,030 Israeli and Settler Attacks Recorded in the West Bank in August

GHLands : The Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission reported that Israeli occupation forces and settlers carried out 2,030 attacks against Palestinian citizens, their lands, and property across the West Bank during August, reflecting the continued escalation of attacks linked to settlement expansion, land confiscation, and the displacement of Palestinian communities.

In a report issued on Tuesday, the Commission said that Israeli occupation forces carried out 1,402 attacks, while settlers were responsible for 628 attacks.

Nablus governorate recorded the highest number of attacks, with 380, followed by Ramallah and al-Bireh with 353, Hebron with 275, Bethlehem with 239, Jenin with 230, and Jerusalem with 194 attacks.

According to the Commission, the attacks were concentrated in governorates witnessing accelerated settlement expansion and growing attempts to control roads, agricultural and grazing lands, and key movement routes.

The Commission said the attacks included shootings, uprooting trees and burning crops, preventing Palestinians from accessing their lands, confiscating property, and demolishing homes and agricultural structures. It said the combination of these practices constituted an integrated system of pressure on Palestinians, threatening their livelihoods and their ability to remain on their lands.

628 Attacks Carried Out by Settlers

According to the report, settlers carried out 628 attacks during August. The attacks were concentrated in Ramallah and al-Bireh, with 157 incidents, followed by Nablus with 137, Hebron with 120, Bethlehem with 73, Tubas with 40, Jenin with 36, and Jerusalem with 31 attacks.

The Commission said that on August 21, 17-year-old Karim Sanad Shalaldeh was killed after settlers opened fire on him during an attack in the Hamroush area of Sa'ir, in the Hebron governorate.

It said the number of Palestinians killed by settlers since the beginning of 2026 had risen to 25.

Settler attacks also directly affected 164 Palestinians, including 20 children and 17 women. Hebron recorded the highest number of affected people, with 68, followed by Nablus with 50 and Ramallah and al-Bireh with 23.

Agricultural attacks during the month also targeted 21,508 trees, including 19,375 olive trees.

Salfit recorded the highest number of targeted trees, with 4,892, followed by Jenin with 4,241, Nablus with 3,718, Qalqilya with 3,530, Hebron with 2,311, Ramallah and al-Bireh with 1,652, Tubas with 802, and Bethlehem with 362 trees.

Attempts to Establish 32 New Settlement Outposts

The Commission said settlers attempted to establish 32 new settlement outposts during August. Nine of the attempts took place in Ramallah and al-Bireh, six each in Hebron and Nablus, three in Jenin, two each in Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and Tubas, and one each in Tulkarm and Qalqilya.

The Commission explained that the establishment of settlement outposts generally begins with the placement of tents and structures and the opening of roads, followed by military protection and the provision of services and infrastructure. The outposts are then connected to existing settlements, eventually leading to attempts to formalize their status and transform them into settlements recognized by the Israeli authorities.

According to the Commission, these efforts are primarily concentrated in rural and grazing areas and on land located between Palestinian villages, with the aim of controlling large areas and creating geographical continuity between settlements while isolating and fragmenting Palestinian communities.

1,629 Dunams of Palestinian Land Seized

Regarding land confiscation, the Commission said Israeli authorities seized approximately 1,629 dunams of Palestinian land during August through a series of military orders.

It said declarations of what Israeli authorities designate as "state land" targeted 1,152 dunams in the areas of Sinjil, al-Laban al-Sharqiya, and Qaryut, in addition to 370.28 dunams in Abu Dis and Arab al-Sawahreh.

As a result, the area directly confiscated under the designation of "state land" during the month amounted to approximately 1,628.5 dunams. The Commission noted that the latest declaration threatens the geographical space of the al-Muntar Bedouin community.

Israeli authorities also issued nine land seizure orders targeting more than 106 dunams, including 37.481 dunams in Beitunia, 19.30 dunams in Tubas, 15.580 dunams in al-Jib, and 15.342 dunams in al-Bireh, as well as 11.970 dunams in Jaba. Additional areas in Marqa, Marda, Jinsafut, and Jericho were also affected.

The authorities also issued eight orders under the designation of "taking security measures", covering 317.086 dunams and authorizing the removal of wild vegetation and the uprooting of olive trees. Of this area, 310.868 dunams were located in Jenin governorate alone.

The Commission stressed that this area is not included in the direct confiscation total, but represents an effective restriction on the use of land and a change to its vegetation cover. The total area targeted through land seizure orders, "state land" declarations, and "security measures" orders reached 1,945.597 dunams during August.

155 Structures Demolished and 44 Demolition Notices Issued

The Commission said Israeli authorities carried out 71 demolition operations during August, targeting 155 structures. These included 47 occupied homes, eight unoccupied homes, 33 structures used as sources of livelihood, 61 agricultural structures, and six other structures.

Jenin recorded the highest number of demolished structures, with 29, followed by Jericho and Hebron with 24 each. Nablus recorded 21 demolitions, Ramallah and al-Bireh 16, Jerusalem 15, Bethlehem 13, Tubas nine, Tulkarm three, and Qalqilya one.

Israeli authorities also issued 44 demolition or stop-work notices targeting Palestinian structures and property. Hebron received the highest number, with 11 notices, followed by Jerusalem and Bethlehem with eight each, and Jenin and Tulkarm with five each.

The Commission said the demolitions directly affected at least 200 documented Palestinians, including 75 children and 56 women. It said the impact of the demolition policy extends beyond the destruction of buildings, affecting family stability and sources of income and making it increasingly difficult for Palestinian families to remain in their communities.

3,819 Settlement Units Included in 12 Plans

On settlement expansion, the Commission said Israeli authorities advanced 12 settlement plans and projects in the West Bank and Jerusalem during August. These included six plans deposited for review, four approved plans, and two construction tenders.

The measures included 3,819 settlement units, while the total area covered by the deposited and approved plans reached 5,472.22 dunams.

In the West Bank, nine plans were advanced, including four deposited plans involving 912 units across 476.618 dunams in the settlements of "Avigail," "Hinanit," "Psagot," and "Giv'at Ze'ev."

Three additional plans were approved, involving 156 units across 4,871.402 dunams. Among the most significant was a plan to expand Route 60 between the Tapuah Junction and the British Police Junction over a distance of 18 kilometers and an area of 4,693 dunams.

Israeli authorities also issued tenders for the construction of 1,861 settlement units, including 627 units in "Kochav Ya'akov" and 1,234 units in the E1 area.

The Commission said the issuance of tenders in the E1 area represents a move toward implementing the project. It said the project aims to connect the settlement of "Ma'ale Adumim" with Jerusalem and would, according to its assessment, sever Palestinian geographical contiguity between the northern, central, and southern parts of the West Bank.

In occupied Jerusalem, Israeli authorities announced three settlement plans, including two deposited plans involving 890 units across 30.176 dunams. These include 650 units in the new settlement of "Nofei Rachel" at the western entrance to Sur Baher and 240 units in "Gilo."

Authorities also approved an infrastructure plan south of "Gilo" covering 94.024 dunams.

The Commission concluded that the simultaneous advancement of settlement housing plans, road and infrastructure projects, and tenders in the E1 area reflects, in its assessment, an integrated effort to reshape the geography of the West Bank and Jerusalem by connecting settlement blocs while isolating Palestinian communities.
